Community Center in Córrego da Volta

Poverty and ignorance create vulnerability. The Community Center will push back on these and other forces that expose this community to the risks of sexual exploitation, recruitment into the drug trade, malnutrition, and hopelessness. The community center will help is towards multiple goals: reducing the dropout rate, providing supplemental study programs and business classes, housing medical campaigns, and other business development activities. Local professionals have already volunteered their time and expertise in the following areas; We are just waiting on a place to begin these community-boosting classes:

  • Reading club

  • Tutoring

  • Martial arts classes

  • Soccer training

  • Artisanry training

  • Cooking class

  • Community library

  • Monthly basic health services

  • Guitar/music classes

  • Drawing

  • Ceramics

We will also partner with national and international organizations on sport-oriented projects to take place in the future sports structure, for the training and development of future athletes. Local psychologists, nutritionists, and doctors have already committed their time to this community, but can’t begin to serve here until we have a place for them to safely and confidentially see patients!
