Jamile and her sister Marina

lost their mother, grandmother, grandfather, and cousin in a tragic car accident last Christmas. This tragedy shattered the family. Jamile’s husband then got sick and was unable to work, and she took on the role of mother to her 2 brothers ages 15 and 7, and sister Marina, age 11.

Marina has been targeted by sex traffickers since she lost her mother. Facing hunger and not many work opportunities, it is increasingly difficult to protect her from their coercion. She is extremely shy and is still grieving the loss of her family.

Jamile has her own son who is 6 years old and her own house. Since her mother died, she is taking care of both households, which takes a huge amount of her time and does not allow her to work. Without money to provide for her and her siblings, Marina is an easy target to the predators that know of their situation.

Justice, Compassion, and Hope with Hear the Cry Brasil provided food for this family, and followed up to monitor the situation.

Jamile needed work that would allow her the flexibility to care for two households, and money for food and basic needs.

When we shared her story with you recently, many of you agreed with us that it is not OK for this family to live in such vulnerability. Thanks to your generous donations, we have now raised enough money to hire Jamile as our project coordinator in Itarema, Brazil! She will finally put her previous education and experience to work coordinating educational and entrepreneurial classes and activities to empower other families in the community!
